Francis Xavier was an illustrious Basque Roman Catholic Missionary who also co-founded the ‘Society of Jesus’. In 1534 he became one of the first seven Jesuits to take pledge of chastity and poverty in Paris. He received his early education from a parish priest and his mother. He then later pursued his studies from ‘University of Paris’. In 1537, he achieved his priesthood. He also became the first foreign missionary to visit India on the order of the Pope. He reached India and after landing in Goa he started learning the local language. He then began with his teaching, preaching and attending sick children.
