Dwight David Ike Eisenhower was a soldier and politician, who served the United States Army as a five star general and went on to serve as the 34th President of the United States of America for two terms, ending in 1961. Eisenhower attended the United States Military Academy, informally known as West Point. He rose to become a five star general of the US Army and led the Allied Expeditionary Forces as its Supreme Commander during the Second World War. Following the war, he became the Army Chief of Staff and eventually, he was appointed as the President of Columbia University. Eisenhower became the 34th President of the United States after beating Robert A.Taft in the election in 1952 on the back of a campaign against communism and corruption. He was duly re-elected four years later. He served as President at an intensely volatile time, following the Second World War when the world was still recovering and the Cold War with the Soviet Union had just commenced.
