Ronald Ernest Paul, popularly known as Ron Paul, is an American politician, physician and writer who served as the United States Representative in Congressional districts in Texas on two occasions. He studied biology at Gettysburg College, graduating in 1957 and then studied medicine at the Duke University School of Medicine. He worked in the capacity of a flight surgeon for United States Air National Guard and United States Air Force for some time before taking the plunge into politics. Paul became the United States' representative of the 22nd Congressional district in Texas in 1976 and served at that post till 1977. Consequently, he served as the United States representative of the 14th congressional district for six years starting from 1997 and ending in 2013. Paul had also tried to become the President of the United States in the past but his attempts as a nominee of the Libertarian Party did not prove to be fruitful and he was not successful in the primaries in 2008 and 2012 as a Republican candidate. On the other hand, he has also been a prolific writer and some of his noted works include Liberty Defined, Pillars of Prosperity and A Foreign Policy of Freedom among many others.
