Angelus Silesius was a German priest and physician, known as a religios poet. Silesius showed the artistic traits at an early age and he even composed and published his first poem ‘Bonus Consilliarius’ during his school days. He later studied science and medicine at the University of Strasbourg. After his Graduation he started working as a court physician at the Royal Court of Duke of Wurttemberg who was dissatisfied with his job and soon dismissed him. The mystical ideologies of the Duke contradicted with Lutheran theologies and due to the differences, Angelus was forced to resign from his post. He later went to Habsburg rulers who were promoting re-Catholicisation and Silesius adopted Catholicism in the year 1653 and came to known as Angelus Silesius (born Johann Scheffler). After the Catholic Church had granted him to publish poems, Silesius published his anthologies of poetic work ‘Der Cherubinische Wandersmann’ , and ‘Heilige Seelenlust’.
