The Noble Laureate Wole Soyinka is a distinguished Nigerian poet, author, and a political activist. His deep interest in writing helped him become the editor of the college magazine and also brought him various prizes. He published a few of his poems in a Nigerian magazine while working for his play ‘The Invention’ which was staged at ‘Royal Court Theatre, London’. He received a fellowship for research on ‘African Theatre’ which helped him return to Nigeria to produce a couple of successful dramas. There he also formed a couple of acting groups called ‘Nineteen-Sixty Masks’ and the ‘Orisun Theatre Company’ where he worked both as a producer and actor. During this period he wrote plays and articles criticizing the Nigerian government which were also staged in New York. After his release, he produced various successful plays that were appreciated all over.
