William Howard Taft was the 27th President of the U.S who also served as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. He is the only person to head both the judicial and executive wings of the federal government. His high intellect and understanding of law helped him get consecutive promotions, and he soon became the youngest Solicitor General of United States. He was then appointed the Governor-General of Philippines and went on to serve as the Secretary of War before being elected as the U.S President. He brought some great reforms including ‘shirt sleeve diplomacy’ and ‘open door policy’. His ‘policy of harmony’ with congress was misunderstood and created a split between the progressives and conservatives in the Republican Party. Although he took some good measures but his term did not go well as his leadership qualities were not aggressive. After 7 years of his stepping down as the President, he was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court where he gained a lot of reputation.
