Siddhartha Gautam, also known as Buddha ‘The enlightened (or awakened) one’ was the spiritual leader and founder of Buddhism. Gautam was born in the royal family of Lumbini (Nepal) in fifth century BC. He spent his childhood in the laps of luxury. During childhood, some saints predicted that he would either be a renowned spiritual leader or a noble king. Despite losing his mother at a tender age, his father kept him away from worldly miseries. He grew up and led a happy family life until he came across a corpse, a hermit, an old man and a sick person on one of his trips through the city. This opened his eyes to the sorrows and sufferings of the world. Thus, began a journey of self-discovery. After several years of meditation and contemplation, he sat under a tree where he finally attained nirvana. He understood the role of everything from a speck of dust to the heavenly bodies. He realized the deeper truths of life and formed ‘Four Noble Truths’ and the ‘Eightfold path’ to preach his findings through the newly formed religion of Buddhism. He preached the true meaning of life and inspired his followers to control their desire, sins and wrongdoings to end their sufferings as a means to attain mental peace. The thoughts and teachings propagated by Gautama Buddha are life-changing. We have excerpted Gautama Buddha’s quotes from his sermons and teachings. A collection of Gautam Buddha quotes and sayings on life, karma, happiness, death, religion, forgiveness, meditation, peace, mind, truth, spirituality, love, wisdom and more.
The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly.
Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.
Conquer the angry one by not getting angry; conquer the wicked by goodness; conquer the stingy by generosity, and the liar by speaking the truth.
[Verse 223]
Gautama Buddha
The past is already gone, the future is not yet here. There's only one moment for you to live, and that is the present moment
