Benito Amilcare Andrea Mussolini was an Italian journalist and politician, who rose to prominence in the first half of the 20th century as the head of the National Fascist Party as well as the Prime Minister of Italy. Mussolini became the Prime Minister of Italy in 1922 and continued to rule the country till 1943, during which he turned the form of governance into a dictatorship. He started off his career as a politician, as a member of the ‘Italian Socialist Party’, but eventually he fell out with the leadership after they chose to remain neutral regarding Italy’s participation in the First World War. After serving the ‘Royal Italian Army’ in the First World War, he became increasingly nationalistic in his outlook and eventually led the ‘National Fascist Party’. His time as the dictator of Italy was punctuated with brutal crackdown on any kind of opposition and his decision of participating in the Second World War proved to be a disastrous one for the country. His legacy is an infamous one but at the same time he remains one of the most fascinating political figures in modern history. Here are some of his quotes and thoughts which have been scanned from his life and work that will give you a glimpse into his mind.
