Robert Nesta Marley, popularly known as simply Bob Marley, was a singer, guitarist and songwriter from Jamaica, who is still regarded as one of the greatest musical starts to have emerged in the modern era. Marley is considered to be the greatest exponent of the genre of music known as reggae and his music was also peppered with inspiration from other forms of music like ska and rocksteady. Marley started out as a professional singer with the band The Wailers in 1963 and most of the albums that were released are still considered among the finest music that has ever been released, due to the unique style that he introduced. However, it was after the release of the album titled Axodus in 1974 that he became a truly worldwide superstar, who could also command huge audiences at his live shows. Marley was a global music icon at a time of great social upheaval in the ‘swinging ‘60s’ and the civil rights movement that swept across the United States. Additionally, he was a great orator and preached peace and non-violence through his music.
